IURIDIA La nueva era de los algoritmos y la Inteligencia Artificial y su tutela jurídico-privada en el marco de la Unión Europea

Mission

IURIDIA is a research project funded by the Conselleria of Education, Universities and Employment, for research groups of excellence, entitled “The new era of algorithms and Artificial Intelligence and their legal-private protection within the framework of the European Union”.

The mission of the project focuses on the analysis of the private-legal measures that the European Union has already implemented for the construction of a legal framework at the community level in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), which must be interrelated with the civil liability regime, which will include the current regulations on the protection of consumers and users for the damages that they may suffer due to the use of defective products when AI-powered robots are involved.

Objectives

The main objectives of the project will be to contribute to the advancement of legal science, identifying problems and proposing practical solutions to adjust European private regulations to the demands of the new digital era and lead to the achievement of a European legal framework with regard to Artificial Intelligence (AI). In short, it is expected to fulfil the University’s own function of providing a public service for the dissemination, valorisation and transfer of knowledge at the service of culture, quality of life, and the economic development of Spain and the European Union.

To this end, the research project will analyse the three fundamental areas in which AI has disrupted private law: its relationship with the civil liability regime, its impact on the intellectual property regime and the impact on certain personality rights, and the need for redress in the face of automated decisions taken by AI systems.
